SCOTT JACKSON WILEY began his career in music with a degree in guitar and first prize awards from the Conservatory of Barcelona, studying under the great Spanish guitarist, Narciso Yepes. Other distinguished guitarists he has studied with include Emilio Pujol, Mario Escudero and Dennis Koster, who has played a pivotal role in Mr. Wiley’s career. Also a conductor, this fall he begins his ninth season as Music Director of the South Shore Symphony of Rockville Centre, New York. Noted for his passionate and committed music-making, the baton and the guitar have taken him abroad to Israel, Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland, Ukraine and Peru. Mr. Wiley earned a Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting under Michael Charry at the Mannes College of Music, where he currently teaches in the Preparatory Division, and studied at the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors under Charles Bruck. Fluent in five languages and having conducted many operas, he is in demand as a vocal coach. As a guitarist he has made a particular specialty of chamber music and his duo with violinist Robin Zeh has met with great success. His years in Spain have given him an enduring interest in Hispanic art and culture and he is music director, accompanist and arranger for the Spanish classical dance company Caprichos Boleros.
